There was a point in my journey when everything looked perfect on paper. My company was growing, I was getting featured in the media, and funding rounds were being closed. But beneath the surface, my personal habits were quietly wrecking my performance. I had gained weight. I stopped working out. Wine became a nightly routine, and my meals were whatever was fast and available—usually ultra-processed, empty calories. I was running on junk fuel, and it showed. Burnout, poor decision-making, and mood swings were creeping into every corner of my life, including business.

Everything began to change when I stopped treating wellness like an option and instead turned three lifestyle habits into non-negotiables. These weren't goals I might pursue if I had time. They became the foundation of how I lived and worked. Within weeks, I saw major shifts—not just physically, but mentally and professionally. I became sharper, calmer, more energized, and more resilient under pressure. If you’re an entrepreneur or a high-performer in any field, I believe these habits are more important than any sales tactic or growth hack. Here’s how they transformed my life—and how they can transform yours too.

First, I started treating my workouts with the same importance as a critical investor meeting. I made physical exercise a sacred part of my day. Not for aesthetics or Instagram posts, but because movement builds mental toughness, relieves stress, and sharpens clarity. Entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos, Mark Wahlberg, and Kevin Hart all prioritize fitness—not because they have time to kill, but because their stamina and leadership depend on it.

When I got back into daily workouts, it was humbling. I’d lost my strength and discipline. But the more consistent I became—whether it was lifting weights, walking outside, or doing high-intensity sessions—the clearer my thinking got. I started sleeping better. I stopped reaching for alcohol to unwind. And I began handling challenges with more composure. Harvard research backs this up: regular aerobic exercise enhances executive function, which directly affects our ability to focus, decide, and lead. In short, entrepreneurship is a high-performance sport. You have to train like an athlete if you want to win.

Second, I completely changed my relationship with food. Entrepreneurs are infamous for skipping meals or grabbing fast food between meetings. But that mindset is flawed. What you eat becomes the foundation of your decisions, your energy, and your mood. I moved toward a flexitarian diet—vegetables, legumes, fish, some grains, and occasional meat. I didn’t go extreme. I just got intentional. I read nutrition labels. I ditched sugary snacks and protein bars disguised as meals. I drank more water. Wine became an occasional treat instead of a daily habit.

The change was immediate. No more afternoon crashes. No more brain fog. My thinking became clearer, my energy more sustainable, and my focus sharper. Look at high-performers like Tom Brady, who credits his longevity and peak performance to clean eating. Or entrepreneurs like Tim Ferriss, who design their entire lifestyle around performance optimization. Food is not just sustenance—it's strategy. And poor dietary habits will always catch up with you, whether it’s through fatigue, illness, or impaired judgment.

The third and most underrated shift was treating sleep like a priority—not a luxury. The hustle culture celebrates late nights and short rest like badges of honor. But sleep deprivation is not a sign of drive—it's a fast-track to burnout and poor leadership. Neuroscience is crystal clear: quality sleep is essential for memory, emotional regulation, creativity, and rational thinking. It’s also how the brain clears out toxins that build up during the day.

I used to cut sleep for emails, events, or late-night planning. Now, I protect it like gold. I set a strict bedtime, avoided screens before sleep, eliminated late-night drinks, and maintained the same routine even on weekends. The impact? More strategic thinking. Better emotional control. Fewer mistakes. Even Elon Musk, once a self-proclaimed workaholic, admitted that lack of sleep nearly cost him his mind—and later adjusted his schedule to prioritize rest. There’s no glory in running on empty. Great leaders don’t martyr themselves—they optimize themselves.

Ultimately, what I’ve learned is that success isn't just about vision, skill, or even opportunity. It's about stamina. Your body is your most valuable asset as a founder, executive, or creator. If you fall apart, everything else follows.

So if you’re chasing big goals, stop looking only at strategy decks and funding plans. Start with your foundation. Move your body. Fuel it wisely. Rest like your life depends on it—because it does. These three habits gave me the clarity, endurance, and edge I needed to lead at the highest level. They can do the same for you. Treat them like your business depends on it—because in truth, it does.
